Newsletter Recap: "The New Dawn - Новий світанок"
An Evening of Unity and Purpose on the SS Rotterdam
On the evening of October 26th, aboard the historic SS Rotterdam, distinguished guests gathered for "The New Dawn - Новий світанок" charity dinner. Hosted by the Strong Through Art Foundation in collaboration with SS ROTTERDAM by WestCord, this event brought together Dutch and Ukrainian supporters in a powerful show of unity and commitment to helping Ukraine’s children impacted by conflict. With moving speeches, cultural performances, and an exclusive art auction, the evening exemplified solidarity and hope for a brighter future for Ukraine’s most vulnerable.
Opening Remarks by Host Robert van der Noordaa
The evening was gracefully hosted by Mr. Robert van der Noordaa, a respected research journalist and valued friend of the Strong Through Art Foundation. His warm and insightful introductions set a dignified tone, guiding guests through the evening’s program. Mr. van der Noordaa introduced each speaker with sensitivity, highlighting their connections to the cause. His leadership extended to the evening’s performances and the live auction, which he facilitated with enthusiasm and a deep understanding of the Foundation's mission. His presence as host was instrumental in making "The New Dawn" an unforgettable experience for all in attendance.
Ambassador Oleksandr Karasevych’s Call for Support
The evening was honored by Ambassador Oleksandr Karasevych of the Ukrainian Embassy in the kingdom of the Netherlands, whose address deeply moved the audience. Ambassador Karasevych, started with the sounds of the air raids in Ukraine, highlighted the challenges Ukraine faces amidst continued Russian drone and missile attacks, causing tragic loss of lives, including children. His words emphasized the urgent need for continued global support, extending heartfelt thanks to those gathered for their compassion. Ambassador Karasevych address underscored that Ukraine’s future depends on the solidarity and generosity of its international friends.
A Message of Responsibility from Robert Serry
During his speech, Robert Serry, the first Dutch ambassador to Ukraine, reflected on Ukraine’s enduring battle for independence and human dignity, emphasizing the importance of collective responsibility in supporting Ukraine's struggle. Mr. Serry underscored that Ukraine’s fight to protect its people and rebuild its nation is not a burden it can carry alone, and he expressed gratitude to those who stand in solidarity with Ukraine in this challenging time.

Mr. Serry also took a moment to highlight the plight of the Crimean Tatars in Crimea. Once again, this ethnic group faces oppression and threats from Russian authorities, echoing a dark chapter in their history. He reminded the audience of the Crimean Tatars’ tragic past when, during the Second World War, Stalin deported the entire population to places like Uzbekistan. Nearly half did not survive this forced relocation. Today, the Crimean Tatars endure renewed hardships, making international awareness and support all the more crucial.

Mr. Serry’s words left a lasting impact, underscoring that Ukraine’s struggle for peace and justice encompasses the protection and dignity of all its people, including the Crimean Tatars, who continue to face threats to their heritage and existence.
A Mission to Build: A Rehabilitation Center for Ukraine’s Children
The central purpose of the evening was to raise funds for a groundbreaking project: a fully off-grid rehabilitation center in the Carpathian Mountains of Ukraine. This visionary center will serve as a sanctuary for children traumatized by war and offer essential health services to the local community. The project gained crucial support thanks to a generous land donation of 10,000 square meters by Judge Stanislav Lozytskyi and his wife. Mr. Lozytskyi, a rehabilitating soldier and humanitarian, expressed that this contribution was not for personal recognition but as a heartfelt act to support Ukraine’s children. His message embodied the evening’s spirit of selflessness and compassion.
A Spectacular Cultural Performance by the Ukrainian International Ballet
Following these heartfelt speeches, the Ukrainian International Ballet delivered an enchanting performance that conveyed resilience and hope through the art of dance. The dancers captivated the audience with their grace and expressiveness, honoring their heritage and demonstrating the strength of the Ukrainian spirit. This unforgettable performance added a profound cultural element to the evening, symbolizing the beauty of Ukrainian resilience.
An Exclusive Dining Experience with Ukrainian and Dutch Flavors
After the performances, guests were invited to dine in an exquisitely set dining room, where they enjoyed a menu curated to blend Ukrainian and Dutch culinary traditions. Led by Master Chef Igor Bragin, the evening’s dishes reflected the fusion of two cultures and celebrated unity through food. As guests dined, they were serenaded by Maria Dimova, who sang traditional Ukrainian songs, later joined by a chorus of children in a touching performance that underscored the evening’s theme of harmony and hope.
An Art Auction and Musical Performances to Inspire and Engage
The evening included a lively art auction, facilitated by Robert van der Noordaa, giving guests the chance to bid on pieces donated by Ukrainian and Dutch artists. All proceeds from the auction went directly toward the rehabilitation center fund, raising €10,620. The auction attracted several Rotary Clubs, whose members pledged further support for the project. Clubs from Kharkiv, Kherson, Cherkasy, Larnaca (Cyprus), the Rotary Academy of Ukrainian Culture and Arts – RAU, Rotary ICC Netherlands – Ukraine, and Rotary Club International were present, showcasing a growing network of support.

The event’s musical performances continued with talented young singers Ivan and Milana Borodai, whose heartfelt renditions of Ukrainian folk and contemporary songs brought joy and cultural pride to the evening. This touching musical program was a testament to Ukraine’s enduring cultural heritage.
